Katie Rote began her career in 2004 at Central Beauty School in Cambridge, MN. She became a member of the National Cosmetology Association in June of 2005. In 2005, she went to work for Top Colour Shop in Hopkins, MN. Her reasoning for working at at Top Colour was to further her education mainly in coloring along with all other aspects of hair.
Katie started as an apprentice learning the ins and outs of Schwarzkopf color and eventually worked her way to a stylist. She was mentored by Miguel and Babette Newman. Miguel was a national and international color educator for Schwarzkopf and Babette was a national educator for Schwarzkopf and Goldwell. In 2006 Top Colour Shop decided to drop Schwarzkopf color due to rumors of diversion and picked up Keune color. While working at Top Colour Shop she had assisted in educational classrooms. She also assisted in putting together a major dance production for the Heartland Beauty Expo held in Bloomington, MN in which all proceeds went to support the American Wig Foundation. She has been to Chicago to take classes from Tom Dispenza and has also traveled to Orlando, Detroit, and Kansas to further her education.
In 2007 Katie left Top Colour Shop and went to work at Pull out a Plum Salon and Gallery in Edina, MN. Although there were no educational classes offered to the stylists, she continued to seek out and attend various advanced technique classes around the upper Midwest. In 2009 Pull out a Plum Salon and Gallery closed down and Katie opened her own studio salon called C’est La Vie Studio under the franchise of Sola Salon Studios in Edina. In 2010 Katie became an artisan for Keune in which she attended yearly national artist conferences in Atlanta, GA and completed the following classes held at the Atlanta Academy: Color certification, Masters of the craft 1, Platform Fundaments and Color Faster. She had the privilege of being one of two artists asked to introduce and educate all of the U.S. Keune artists and management on Keunes Keratin straightening system. She has had the privilege of facilitating classes with artists such as Shannon King, George Alderete, Chris Sulimay and assisting Roy Peters. She has traveled regionally and nationally educating her peers on Keune color, products, seasonal color, cut trends and techniques until she left the company in June of 2015.
Katie takes her health and passion as a stylist and educator very seriously. Knowing that most stylist have a high chance of getting carpal tunnel or shoulder, neck, back, hip or feet problems, she started practicing yoga in 2012 to help prevent these issues and prolong her career. In 2015, she successfully completed the Power Yoga Level One 200 hour certification to become a yoga teacher. With this certificate she has the ability to teach yoga anywhere in the USA. In 2016 Katie was asked to work with featured film director Erick Sommers as artistic director on the 48 hour film project called Solvent. She is currently working at C’est La Vie Studio and became the director of education for WarPaint International Beauty Agency. The agency provides onsite bridal hair, styling, runway and finishing etc... In September of 2016 she bacame a Pure Artist with Pureology in which she travels locally and nationally educating her peer on product knowledge, up styling, blow drying and hair cutting.
In September 2017 Katie had the privilege of working New York Fashion week with Warpaint International and Opera Recycles out of North Carolina. She designed and created 16 hair styles for 16 different models all based off of the opera the dresses were designed from. Minnesota is her home but she loves to travel. One of her favorite things to do is to meet new people, making new connections and friends. Katie has many aspirations and goals set to further her career within the beauty industry.
