Why I Chose Vagaro as My Salon Business Partner
Sola x Vagaro
Article summary:
Running an independent salon means wearing a lot of hats.
Stylist. Receptionist. Bookkeeper. Marketing manager. Customer service. Inventory. IT support when the printer decides today is the day.
I've spent almost 30 years behind the chair, and several of those running my own suite. The color work was never the hard part. The hard part was everything that happened around it. And the fastest way to burn out as an independent is to run your business across six different apps that don't talk to each other.
That's why the software you choose matters more than most new suite owners expect.
What the Sola x Vagaro Partnership Means for You
Vagaro is now Sola's preferred booking software. The program built around it is called mySOLA powered by Vagaro, a version of the platform designed specifically for Sola Pros.
Here's what I wish someone had spelled out for me:
mySOLA Basic is included at no cost.
It lets you manage your complimentary Pro page and get discovered through the Sola Directory.
mySOLA Premium is $23.99/month
(down from $30). It comes with a 2.5% card-present processing rate, full-service onboarding, and ongoing support.
Your data transfers for free
from the software you use now, including appointments, clients, and history.
You get two front doors.
Your business shows up in both the Sola Directory and the Vagaro Marketplace, so new clients can find and book you without ever seeing your Instagram.
Support is live and 24/7.
You can also reach a dedicated Sola team at sola_vip@vagaro.com or 925-430-6101.
Already on Vagaro? I was too. You can switch to the mySOLA program without losing your data, your calendar, or your setup. Fill out the short form on the partnership page, and their team will walk you through it.
The Features I Use Every Week
Anyone can list features. These are the ones that changed how my business runs.
Letting Clients Pay Their Way
Flexible payment options make luxury services more accessible. Vagaro's Affirm integration lets eligible clients split qualifying purchases into smaller payments, and I still get paid upfront.
That matters more than it sounds. A full dimensional color correction or a set of extensions is a real investment. When a client can spread the cost over a few months, "maybe next time" turns into "let's book it." I'm not discounting my work to make it accessible. I'm just removing the timing problem.
Eligibility and loan terms are determined by Affirm.
Sending Professional Invoices in Minutes
Not everything happens in the chair.
Deposits. Extension orders. Custom color quotes. Payment after a consultation. I used to handle all of that with a payment app, a note in my phone, and a mental sticky note about who still owed me.
Now I send a professional invoice by text or email, the client pays securely online, and I can see what's paid and unpaid in one place. If you've ever chased a deposit for three weeks, you know why this made my list.
Teaching, Not Just Doing
Your income doesn't have to be capped by the hours you can stand behind a chair.
Vagaro supports online classes and live streaming. You can use them to educate clients, mentor newer stylists, or build another revenue stream around whatever you're best at: styling technique, product knowledge, or business education. It all runs through the platform you already use, so you're not building a second business from scratch.
For those of us with decades of experience, that's a real opportunity. What you know is worth something on its own, separate from the services you perform.
One System Instead of Six
The biggest win is having it all in one place. With mySOLA, I've got:
Online booking
Client management and history
Payment processing
Digital forms and consultations
Marketing and email campaigns
Invoicing
Online classes and live streaming
Flexible client payment options through Affirm
Directory and marketplace visibility
Every app you cut means one less login, one less subscription, and one less place for a client detail to get lost. Less time managing software means more time doing what I love: taking care of my clients.
If You're Thinking About Making the Leap
When stylists who are thinking about leaving a commission chair for their own suite talk to me, they almost always ask about rent, retail, and clientele. Almost nobody asks about software.
But the day you go independent, you take on every back-office job at once. The systems you set up in month one are the ones you'll still be using in year five. It's cheaper to choose well early than to untangle a mess later. And since mySOLA Basic comes at no cost, there's very little standing between you and finding out whether it's the right fit.
Technology should work for you, not become another full-time job.
