The owners of Sola Salon Studios - Twin Cities decided to stop charging rent when it went into effect. Erin and Patrick Elgin operate eight locations where about 340 beauty professionals rent space for their businesses. Now they are asking Gov. Walz to expand who qualifies for unemployment benefits. They posted a letter on Facebook calling on Walz and state lawmakers to adjust unemployment benefits so that all self-employed sole practitioners can apply. The letter has reached over 90,000 and been shared over 700 times.
Sola Twin Cities Owner Erin Elgin was interviewed on KSTP from the Atlanta airport this afternoon to discuss the decision Sunday night to turn off rent for @solatwincities studio owners choosing to voluntarily close due to COVID-19. This all changed late last night with the mandatory closure, which now updated Sola’s policy to turn rent off for all 340 @solatwincities owners for as long as this mandated closure goes on. “This will be a major financial hit for Patrick and I every week this closure goes on, but we know it was the right move,” says Erin Elgin.
