Whether your clients have curls, waves or teeny-weeny coils, here are 5 styling techniques you can use to keep their texture on trend in summer 2014!
Big Hair Don’t Care
This season it’s all about the bigger the better when it comes to texture. Show your clients how to set their hair with a curl cream or curl gel that has moderate to high hold and allow them to dry beneath a hooded dryer. Once they are 90-95% dry, have them flip their head over and use the nozzle attachment on your blow dryer to add volume at the roots and along the shaft to stretch out the curl. Use your fingers to break apart any gel casts and smooth flyaways with a humectant to finish.
Beach Waves with a Twist
Loose, flowing waves have been all the rage for the past few seasons and this summer the bohemian style continues to reign supreme. Update the look for 2014 by adding a fun pop of pastel color to the ends. If your client doesn’t want a lavender ombre permanently, keep a temporary hair chalk on-hand and show them how it’s easy to rock the style, even if just for an afternoon in the sun!
…Headbands that is. First there was Tara Lipinski Johnny Weir with their trendsetting #Sochic2014 tiaras and then there was Lupita N’yongo who dazzled the world with her grand Oscars debut with a dainty, diamond band perched atop her cropped cut. This summer headbands are moving from the realm of purely functional to distinctive accessories. Offer styling with a headband in your services and have a range of options for your clients to choose from so that they can leave your chair with the tools and confidence to pull off this trending look.
Keep your clients cool in the summer’s heat and humidity by creating styles that perch their curls high atop their head rather than hanging loose on their shoulders and down their back. These trending “Top-Hawks” can be created by sweeping wet curls upwards towards the crown and securing with pins allowing the loose pieces to fall frontwards over the forehead.
The Big Chop
As more and more women decide to let go of their chemically processed hair, a Big Chop is a necessary part of the ‘going natural’ journey. Ideal for the summer months, the Big Chop is a drastically different, but effortless style. Even for those who have long since embraced their curls, they might opt to do a second big chop just in time for summer!
