Brooke Perkins

Brooke began her career in the beauty industry five years ago, and is just in love with it now as she was when starting out after graduating with honors from PCI Academy in Ames, Iowa as a Level 3 stylist. Brooke has a passion for hair coloring and styling, and views each day as a new opportunity to apply her skills and talent to create new artistry and designs that reflect the personality and desires of her clients.

Brooke specializes in wedding hair styling, and partners with a local make-up studio, Beauty of All Faces, in teaming up to make special occassions like weddings or unique events and gatherings even brighter!  

Brooke keeps up with the latest trends and products through continuing education opportunities through industry seminars, tradeshows, and on-going training. She is certified in body sugaring and Easi Hair Pro extensions. 

How did you decide on a career as a hairstylist?

I've always had a love for doing hair. I knew I always wanted to help people and make a difference so I took one year at a community college and realized it just wasn't for me. I took my last final and the next week I toured PCI Academy. I fell in love with the program and it has still remained to be one of the best decisions I've ever made!

Where did you receive your professional training and education, along with any industry certifications and awards?

I attended PCI Academy in Ames,Iowa. I graduated in November of 2011 with honors and as a Level 3. Since then I've taken numerous continuing education classes at Hair Shows in Omaha and Chicago. I've been certified in body sugaring and EasiHair Extensions.

How many years of experience do you have in the industry?

I have 4 years of experience and make sure I always keep up with the latest trends.

Do you have a specialty service or expertise that you provide to your clients?

I specialize in wedding hair styling. I've been working with Beauty of All Faces (make-up studio located on the south side of Des Moines) for the past year by teaming up with them to do weddings. I also offer EasiHair tape in extensions as a speciality service. They come in numerous different color shades to match perfectly with your hair color and the hair is reusable! They are not damaging at all to your hair as long as they're taken care of properly. They will last 6-8 weeks and then they should be taken out and re-attached.

What has been your career progression since graduating school?

My career has progressed in every way that I've dreamed of. I've come a long way since working in a salon to now renting out my own space. I am so happy with all the hard work and late nights I've put in to make my dreams as a successful stylist come true.

What do you like most about your career?

I love everything about my career, everyday is a new work of art for me to design. It's very rewarding seeing the reactions when people love what you've created! The best part is meeting all these wonderful clients that have supported me throughout my career!

What do you like most about Sola, and how has being in business for yourself helped to move your career forward?

Sola is an amazing company and I'm so happy to be a part of such a wonderful company. It was such an easy transition to go from working in a commission based salon to running my own business. I am very thankful for all the help from Dave. I am so ecstatic to have my very own salon and plan on doing so for many years to come. This has been one of the best career decisions I've made and looking forward to more advancement in my career.
