Cara Berlin, an Ashevillian for more than 20 years, has deep roots here – friends, family, children – and now her beautiful salon, The Grey Rose, named for her daughters.
After working in several of Asheville’s high-end salons, Cara opened The Grey Rose Salon in downtown Asheville, allowing her the freedom to create the atmosphere she believes a quality salon should offer – quiet, intimate, peaceful and relaxing!
While Cara stays current on beauty trends, she prides herself on customizing those trends to work for her individual clients and tailoring them to everyday wear. She specializes in curly hair and women’s short hairstyles; pixie cuts are especially fun for her. Cara also offers her professional makeup skills for weddings and special events, and she even offers makeup lessons.
Cara is passionate about color, including all over color, highlights, ombré, and balayage techniques. She uses Davines color, a natural hair product known for being almost completely sustainable and vegan. Other products available in Cara’s salon include DevaCurl, which sets the standard for styling, cutting, and coloring techniques for wavy and curly hair; and Rusk, which is especially great for styling short hair styles.
Cara loves to be creative with her clients and is very present and focused on their needs. She asks many questions – one of them being, “What is the worst haircut you’ve ever had?” – so that she knows where her clients are coming from, helps them to be comfortable and open, and creates the best style for the individual sitting in her salon chair.
Expect a fun and open environment at The Grey Rose Salon. Cara’s beauty philosophy is simple: “Hair is fun, of course, but it’s important to work with what you have and not fight it – embrace the beauty that exists and let’s bring it out!”
